Maria Quevedo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by all of her family on March 27th, 2022. Maria was born on August 22, 1943 in Callao, Peru to Felicita Saenz de Machado and Julio Machado Valdivieso. She was one of seven children. Both of her parents died at a young age and being one of the youngest of 3 sisters, they always took good care of her. She graduated from school and had a few office positions until she fell in love with Francisco Mario Quevedo, and they married on August 27th, 1965. Maria and Francisco immigrated to the United States and settled in the Bronx, New York to live near other family, who also immigrated from Peru. They started their family and had two children, Yvonne and Frank Jr. and soon after, moved to Yonkers, New York. While her children were in elementary school, Maria volunteered at School #3. She then worked as a teacher's aide and wanted to pursue a career in teaching elementary aged children. Maria earned her Bachelors Degree in Education from Mercy College and also received two Masters Degrees in Education. She became a Bilingual Yonkers School Teacher for her entire career and retired in 2006. Maria, was one of the founders of the Yonkers Bilingual Association. She loved educating young children and was always so involved with all of the events at the school and the association giving many scholarships to many of her students. Teaching was her passion. Maria, also loved to travel with her beloved husband Francisco and take day trips into New York City to visit the art museums. Once she retired, she spent a lot of time with her three grandchildren, whom she adored. Going to her house during the Holidays, were always fun. She brought a sense of tradition and warmth that will continue to be carried on by her children and grandchildren. Montauk became a family favorite spot and had spent every summer there with her family. She also loved to garden, cook, and feed the birds. When her husband Francisco became ill twice, she then dedicated her final years caring for him. Maria is survived by her loving husband Francisco, her children Yvonne Quevedo Spano and Frank Quevedo, her grandchildren, Scott Spano, Danielle Spano, and Anthony Spano.
