Andrew F. Maniglia (Otto), age 83, decorated WWII veteran of the Pacific, passed into the hands of Jesus Christ on April 4, 2010 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 1, 1926, in NYC to the late Calogero and Carmela Maniglia. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corp and heroically fought the Japanese on the Island of Okinawa. He was severely wounded in battle in April 1945 and received the Purple Heart. On April 24, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rose M. Musico in New York, New York. Following a lengthy rehabilitation of his wounds, Otto joined the NYC Fire Department where he served meritoriously for 26 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. For 10 years following his retirement from the NYC Fire Department, Otto served as the Fire and Safety Director for Einstein College of Medicine and St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He loved music and often played guitar and sang in various local bands and Church choirs between New York and Florida. In 2007, he entered the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor where his videotaped interview of his experiences on Okinawa is recorded. A faithful Roman Catholic, he was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelical in Mahopac, New York. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Rose, his three sons-Charles, James, and Andrew, and six grandchildren: Lisa, Drew, Lana, James, Vincent and Bianca. Funeral viewing services will be held at Sinatra Funeral Home at 601 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, New York on Tuesday, April 6 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Catholic Burial Mass will be held at St. Bartholomew's R.C. Church at 15 Palmer Road, Yonkers, New York on Wednesday, April 7 at 10am. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York, New York. Kindly make donations at giving.mskcc.org in memory of Andrew F. Maniglia.
